Strategic pillars
uisa is making consistent strides toward a low-carbon economy. Self-sufficient in electricity since 1993, powered by a 100% renewable source—sugarcane biomass—we are committed to achieving carbon neutrality (net zero) by 2035. Our focus is on offsetting goals through initiatives such as reforestation and transitioning our agricultural vehicle fleet to biogas, aiming to adopt biogas as a fuel source in the medium term.
Air, water, biodiversity, soil, and minerals are interconnected, and the sustainability of our planet depends on the balance of these ecosystems. This vision guides us in the development of our activities. Within the Natural Capital pillar, we focus on actions aimed at preserving water and biodiversity.
At uisa, sugarcane is utilized to its fullest potential. What might be considered waste is transformed into new bioproducts. Sugarcane biomass is converted into electricity, forage for animal nutrition, or fuel for boilers and biodigesters.
To maintain healthy soil, we have developed various actions, including: planning with goals and indicators aimed at minimizing erosive processes; maintaining straw cover, preserving the fertility of production environments and nutrients; and ensuring the integrity of containment systems in industrial processes. uisa is the first company in the Brazilian sugar-energy sector to receive the Regenagri certification.
